Dr. Rice is a transplant to the Eastern Shore from south Louisiana. His undergraduate degree is from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelors degree in Zoology. Following his undergraduate degree, Dr. Rice worked as a Research Tech in cardiac research at Johns Hopkins University in collaboration with a National Institutes of Aging laboratory of NIH. He received his veterinary degree in medicine and surgery from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in the mid-90’s where upon he and his young family moved to New Mexico where he practiced both large and small animal medicine and surgery in a rural community. “The Land of Enchantment,” however could not hold Dr. Rice for very long and the move was finally made to Queen Anne’s County, which has been his home for nearly 20 years.
Dr. Rice no longer practices large animal medicine and focuses all his attention on our small four legged friends in the community. He enjoys both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, as well, as the challenges of general medicine. In addition to his “day job,” Dr. Rice is also involved in the community, previously as a member of the county’s Animal Control Commission, and currently as a founding board member of the Animal Welfare League of Queen Anne’s County in Queenstown. Outside of his professional and community involvements, he enjoys all the outdoor activities the Queen Anne’s county and the Chesapeake Bay have to offer. He especially enjoys spending time with his family and following the activities of his sons.
